MY THOUGHTS ON THE OK BOOMER MEME AND THE "WAR" BETWEEN BOOMERS AND MILLENNIALS
The phrase OK BOOMER has added fuel to non stop " feud " , "war" , or "spat " between Boomers and Millennials.
Here is a short definition of OK BOOMER and its origin ( source : wiki)
Usage
The phrase "OK Boomer" is a pejorative retort used to dismiss or mock perceived narrow-minded, outdated, negatively-judgemental, or condescending attitudes of older people, particularly baby boomers. The term has been used as a retort for perceived resistance to technological change, climate change denial, marginalization of minorities or opposition to younger generations' ideals.
As of early November 2019, Videos tagged with #OkBoomer on Tik Tok had been viewed more than 44.6 million times.[12]Origin
"OK Boomer" was popularized as a reaction to a video of an unidentified older man, in which he declared that "millennials and Generation Z have the Peter Pan syndrome, they don't ever want to grow up; they think that the Utopian ideals that they have in their youth are somehow going to translate into adulthood". The video inspired the phrase "OK Boomer" as a retaliation and dismissal of the ideals of past generations that have shaped politics, economics and the environment so strongly.[1]
The first recorded instance of the phrase "OK boomer" appeared in a Reddit comment on 29 January 2009,[2] 10 years before popular usage.
The term's recent usage can be traced back to 2015 on 4chan,[3] but started to become popular from January 2019.[4] The term gained media popularity in early November 2019 when articles about the phrase were published.
TikTok, a popular social media platform among teens and young adults, is know for creating viral short videos with audio recordings and has been widely used to promote the "ok boomer" catchphrase.[5] This app has helped to popularize the viral "sound" and hashtag "ok boomer" with over 1 billion views as of November 2019.[6]
It does not matter what era , century, or decade it is , there has always been some type of problem between the older generation and younger generation , nothing new about this issue.
I'm here to talk to about the current issue of the OK BOOMER meme, why Boomers and millennials clash so much , and whos to blame .
For those who don't know what a Boomer is or a what a millennial, here are clear cut definitions :
Boomer : Someone who was born between 1946 -1964 .
Millennial : Someone who was born between 1981- 1996
MY THOUGHTS ON THE OK MEME / USAGE OF THE PHRASE
So I will be honest and admit that I have found some of the OK Boomer memes funny.
I have not have used the phrase OK BOOMER in a convo with Boomers , mainly because of the convos I have had with Boomers do not get that heated.
The only times I have had heated convos with Boomers is on FaceBook pages for media outlets, an even then I have not had to use OK BOOMER .
From I have read and from what I understand , the OK BOOMER phrase is mainly used in a convo were a Gen Z (born between 1997 and 2012) or a Millennial feels that Boomer is not listening or basically using the same argument any time they argue with a Gen Zer or a Millennial .
My thoughts on using this the phrase OK BOOMER and sharing the meme :
I am 50/50 on it because I see the both sides of this phrase/meme.
I am okay with the phrase and the meme being used at times because it is whole lot better then calling a Boomer a harsher name , for example , " You dumb piece of shit ".
Sometimes while arguing with a boomer , the Boomer will initiate the name calling , so why not use OK BOOMER instead of cursing out a Boomer ?
But I am also not for the use of the phrase/meme if you are trolling and if Boomer is actually listening to you and hearing you out. .
Basically what I am saying is to use discretion when saying OK BOOMER or sharing the OK BOOMER meme.
An also some of you Boomers who don't like the phrase OK BOOMER , what about usage of the phrase Snowflake ?
WHY BOOMERS AND MILLENNIALS CLASH SO MUCH IN TODAY'S TIME AND WHOS TO BLAME
So why do Boomers and Millennials clash so much in today's time or this current era?
It comes down to three reason's in my opinion on why Boomer's and Millennials clash so much theses days :
1. Most convos with heated topics are discussed on social media , we hardly ever have theses convos in person , face to face .
2. Both Boomers and Millennials are tired of trying to have to defend their viewpoints while worrying if their character will be attacked.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA AND TV MEDIA MAKE THE RIFT BETWEEN THESES TWO GENERATIONS A LOT WORSE THEN IT NEEDS TO BE !!!!!!
Now who is to blame for this on going "war" between Boomers and Millennials ?!?!?
BOTH SIDE'S ARE TO BLAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both Boomer's and Millennials feed this ongoing "war" because we have let these labels define who we are !
I want you to watch this civil debate between Boomers and Millennials :
In closing I leave you this quote:
